Born in Detroit too late for Woodstock or the moon landing. Story of my life. I am a published science fiction novelist. My philosophy of life can be found in Bob Dylan's lyrics, Thoreau's "Walden," or "The Galaxy Song," especially the last line. Among my favorite writers are Jorge Luis Borges, Thoreau, Orwell and Kafka. Also Dave Barry, P.J. O'Rourke. Music: Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Bach. Politics: Liberal peacenik "mugged by reality;" a friend says I'm an "overly reformed socialist." To put it another way, quoting Mencken, "What keeps me going at my trade, I suppose, is my continuous curiosity, my endless interest in the stupendous farce of human existence." Can recite large chunks of Mel Brooks, Tom Lehrer and Monty Python from memory. Lived in Israel for six years and am fluent in Hebrew.
Publication credits: I am the author of The Severed Wing (Livingston Press, 2002), which was named co-winner of the 2002 Sidewise Award for Alternate History at the International Science Fiction Convention in Toronto in August 2003, tying with Harry Turtledove’s Ruled Britannia. (TURTLEDOVE ROCKS!) My other publications include an alternate history short story, “Palestina,” which appeared in the British science fiction magazine Interzone, issue #204, May/June 2006; a non-science fiction short story that appeared in Jewish Currents in May 2002; essays in Midstream and Tikkun magazines (the latter when I was young & stupid); and poetry in Voices Israel and Dragonfly: East-West Haiku Quarterly. I am also a professional editor and journalist, currently serving as editor of a pharma industry newsletter called Clinical Trials Advisor and as senior editor of New York Diamonds, a trade magazine.
